The All-Suite, All-Cat Hotel

The All-Suite, All-Cat Hotel

The Longcroft Hotel, north of London, features fine gourmet dining. Its staff provides five-star service. Every room in the hotel is suite—rates are as low as £15 per night! And if you are reading this you are absolutely not allowed to stay there.

That’s because the Longcroft Hotel is for cats only.

There are no cages here. Only suites. Six of them, two “large” and four “extra large.” The Bonsai Suite—our favorite—features wall photos of greenery along with a window view of actual greenery. Also cool is the flowerfull Daisy Suite and pinkly Poppy Suite. Crazy cat ladies can combine the latter of those with yet another suite to have an extra extra large lodging area for multiple cats.

Each suite consists of a scratching post-cum-perch contraption in one area and elevated plush bed in another, as well as a porcelain fountain spewing oxygenated water and a view of real birds beyond a window. A selection of feline-friendly music is piped into each suite—we assume that selection includes tunes from Cat Stevens.

The cuisine at the Longcroft is luxurious too. A choice of high-end canned and dry food comes included but for an extra £3.50 per day Socks can feast on choices from the A La Cat menu, including fresh tuna, Italian tomatoes with parmesan cheese and ethically-fished salmon served on bone china plates. (Spot Cool Stuff has never before felt hungry describing cat food).

Other extras to coddle your kitty include grooming packages and massages. The Longcroft Cat Hotel can also email weekly updates of your cat’s activities along with photos.

While non-felines can’t stay overnight at Longcroft, their human companions are invited to tour the facilities; contact the hotel to make arrangements.

If you are more of a dog person check out Actuel Dogs located in Vincennes, outside of Paris—it’s the world’s first luxury hotel for canines.

Since travel is often seen as a means of meeting people, a social endeavor, this could have curious implications for the social lives of animals! Perhaps the neighborhood and the dog park will no longer suffice and animals will have the option to travel in order to meet new friends as well. Although I am sure this hotel was created in response to the owner’s desire to travel, without the cat, it would be interesting to think of a new tourism, animal tourism, in order to culturally enrich one’s animals. How strange it would be if, like humans, after being well-traveled the behavior/attitudes of animals changed in response to those they encounter? Just a fleeting thought that popped into my mind immediately when I saw this.
