NYC’s Best Budget Boutique Hotel

NYC’s Best Budget Boutique Hotel

Walk off of New York City’s Times Square and into the Room Mate Grace Hotel and here’s some of what you’ll see on the hotel’s ground floor: a stylish lobby, a sauna, a gym, a steam room and a pool with a swim-up bar. In the morning you’ll see guests enjoying the free continental breakfast. In the evening you’ll see a DJ spinning tunes in the hotel’s low-lit lounge.

You might think that the Room Mate Grace would be among New York’s top tier expensive hotels. You’d be wrong.

At an average room price of $165/night the Room Mate Grace (formerly the QT Hotel) isn’t exactly a rock-bottom budget youth hostel. But then budget youth hostels don’t have swimming pools from which you can order, and drink, a gin and tonic. The Grace is a bargain considering its fun atmosphere, luxurious perks and location in the heart of one of the world’s most expensive cities.

So why’s it so cheap? The rooms.

First the good news: The Room Mate Grace did not skimp on their room beds. Guests here sleep on comfortable mattresses topped with high tread-count sheets of Egyptian cotton. All of the hotel’s 140 rooms are clean and modern; each features a flat screen television, mini-fridge, large windows and complimentary wifi internet and Kiss My Face bath products.

OK, now the bad news: The rooms are on the small side, even for New York City. Most rooms here are so small that they don’t include a dresser. And those nice beds we mentioned? They are placed upon raised platforms so that you can store your luggage underneath them. The rooms also don’t have full self-contained bathrooms: the sink is open to the rest of the room and a sliding door is all that’s between your sleeping area and your shower (never bathtub) and toilet. Further, the Grace Hotel has no room service, though there is a 24-hour kiosk in the lobby.

Spot Cool Stuff is more than willing to live with those downsides if it means staying in a hotel this cool for a price this reasonable.

If you think you need to spend $500+ for a hip, “New York-like,” boutique accommodations, there but for the Grace Hotel go you.
