The Semiramis Boutique Hotel: Art Deco in Athens

Is it Athens, Greece? Or is it South Beach, Miami? While staying at the Semiramis Hotel your GPS would tell you the former. But the day-glo colored lobby filled with beautiful people, the ubiquitous pop art and the pastel swimming pool area filled with the scent of suntan lotion is enough to convince you of the later.
Yes, everything about the Semiramis is undeniably cool. But it is as certain that this boutique hotel not for everyone. Its in-your-face design, its vibe and its location are the best reasons to stay here — and the best reasons not to.

First, consider the design. It’s relentless. The photos below can give you a taste of it but they can not fully prepare you for the profusion of pink, pastels and plastic that permeate nearly everything around the Semiramis. Some guests love the high design overkill. Others find it exhausting.
Then there’s the vibe. It’s chic, superficial and wholly unrelated to Greek capital. That makes the Semiramis a welcome haven to those looking to take a break from Athens. It will also disappoint those wanting a Greek cultural experience.
Finally, the location. It’s in Kifisia, a mostly residential area northeast of central Athens. Kifisina is rather far from most of the main tourist attractions. It is also quiet. And if you are driving you’ll save yourself a great deal of stress staying here as opposed to, say, The Fresh Hotel, a Spot Cool Stuff boutique favorite downtown Athens. Navigating the streets of Kifisia is relatively easy; the Semiramis Hotel offers indoor parking.
If you do stay at the Semiramis you’ll find all the amenities first class. Rooms feature flat screen televisions, electric blinds and free wifi. There’s a menu of pillows to choose from and a modern gym. The spacious suites are well worth the extra €70 or so premium, but any room on the fourth floor with a patio will delight. Whatever room you stay in make sure to bring your bathing suit—and your South Beach attitude.
