highly capable cameras that feature a 'mirrorless' viewing and rely on an electronic viewfinder and DSLR-sized sensors to capture and record images. Great for the more advanced photo enthusiast or pro looking for an always-available camera.

It's interesting to note that even National Geographic only requires photos to be 6MP for publication. All this hype about higher and higher MP is useless, and unnecessary for magazines.

I would like to see your impressions of the Olympus PEN and the Leica M9. They both fit the bill (depending, of course on how much you want to spend - $6999 for the M9).

That's a very thorough post covering just about every photographer!

I'm really big on ensuring that I'm using a camera that runs on AA batteries. Nothing would ruin my day faster than draining a proprietary battery and finding out I lost/forgot to charge/couldn't find the backup.

I'm also huge believer in avoiding megapixel hype. A 6mp camera with a good sensor can produce a huge print of excellent quality. Anything much bigger just eats up room on the memory card.

Last thing: I love cameras that can save a shot in RAW and JPEG formats simultaneously. That's a handy feature that will save you some batch-processing time.
