What does it say that our favorite Spot Cool Stuff unusual museum post over the last year is about what goes on in a human body and our favorite restaurant post is about what comes out of it?

We’ll be pondering that while counting down our top five offbeat museum and restaurant posts:

Odd Museums

There’s a fine line between educational museum and erotic escapade. This self-described “academy” in London, um, straddles that line perfectly. It also has a very cool bar in which to partake of a much needed drink after a visit.

#4: Shoe Museums Where Fashion Is Afoot
Footwear you’ve never even imagined is on display at these five museums in Toronto, Seattle, Philadelphia, Belgium and the Manila. We’ll give you one guess what famous Filipino shoe collector has her footwear on display in that last one.

#3: The Icelandic Phallological Museum
Size matters at this quirky little northern Iceland museum where the manhoods of all manner of creatures (including an Elf?) are on display.

#2: The World’s Worst Art Museum
Spot Cool Stuff has an entire category of travel attractions that are so bad they are good. Among our favorites is MoBA, a museum that celebrates the artistically untalented.

#1: Corpus Human Body Museum
Our mission is to deliver travel with a WOW factor, and no museum post over the last year delivered as much as this one about an enormous complex outside of Amsterdam where visitors walk through a replica of the interior of a human being.

Bizarre Restaurants

Is it strange to order seafood in this restaurant in the Maldives when the siblings of the creature you are eating are swimming all around you?

#4: Inamo: The London Restaurant with Interactive Tables
It’s a little like eating on—and ordering from—a giant iPhone.

#3: The Hidden Restaurant in Paris
Guest poster extraordinaire Zeva Bellel of Paris By Appoinment Only gives the inside scoop on a restaurant with a mystery location somewhere in French capital.

#2: Pitch Black Dark Restaurants
Who’s there? What am I eating? These are questions you may be asking yourself at any these 13 restaurants where the décor doesn’t matter.

#1: Toilet Restaurants Aim For A Crappy Experience
Worst. Restaurant. Theme. Ever. We love it!

Coming in 2010

In our unusual museums category, 2010 will bring Spot Cool Stuff to an art museum featuring a famous cartoon character. As the year goes on our museum reviews will, shall we say, take a more quirky turn.

As for unusual restaurants, we’ll be checking out places to eat where the waiters are monkeys, where the only transportation to your table is by airplane and where eating sushi is a risque proposition.
