It sounds like the sloppy half of The Odd Couple, but really The Room Mate Oscar is the most hip hotel on one of the most elegant squares in the whole of Madrid. Its 75 individually decorated rooms are fun and modern, though the decor veers too far into quirky-for-quirky’s-sake for some tastes. Perhaps that’s why the Room Mate Oscar is especially popular among hip 20- and 30-somethings who sunbathe next to the hotel’s gorgeous rooftop pool during the day and party in it’s downstairs bar late into the night. We prefer the Room Mate Oscar’s front rooms for their views of the plaza but get a room in back if peace and quiet are paramount to you.
